07.11.09 (JF) The elmsmen travelled just down the road to their derby fixture against souldern. There were cold blustery winds which didnt prevent both teams playing some good football. The cob had a full squad with plenty to prove, started brighter. We looked lively all over the park and particularly used the wings to our advantage. Possible goal of the season, from no where, young michael john hurst flicked the ball over the advancing defenders head before volleying into the top corner from fully 30 yards. This was the signal for boys to dig their heels in a push for more goals. A second was soon added after good work down the left flank found hurst to step inside and place the ball in the bottom right corner from the edge of the box. With in minutes another goal from chris wigan, his first for the club, great shot which caught the keeper out from distance. 3 nil at half time, a feat rarely seen this season. The old boys continued where they left off and scored again through sub colin crowhurst. Credit to souldern they battled no a got a consolation goal, from the penalty spot. 4-1 away from home, again we showed our growing confidence and hunger for football. Well done the elmsmen.
31.10.09 (MH) - Not much to say about this fixture. A 2-1 defeat at home to Cropredy Reserves was simply not good enough. Not even a goalscorer to mention as it went down as an own goal! However we did manage to raise £36 from the sale of our programme and sctratch cards which was donated to the Poppy Appeal.
24.10.09 (MH) - A wet and windy afternoon in Middleton Cheney saw The Old Boys take all 3 points in hard fought contest. Yet more changes to the starting 11 saw a very different team take the field as we dominated the first half and in all honesty should have gone in at the break 3 goals up, but some tame finishing kept things level. The introduction of Matty Spencer saw him pick up his first goal of the season after a trademark long throw from Mike Hurst confused the onlooking defence and left the goal keeper helpless as the ball trickled into the bottom corner. Late pressure from the home side was always on the cards but amounted to nothing with some solid defending. All in all a great team performance and one that we hope to carry into our upcoming fixtures.
17.10.09 (MH) - Cup game number 3 and another defeat. This time Premier League side Arncott were too good for The Old Boys running away with a 7-0 defeat. Now we can concentrate on the league and clawing back some points.
10.10.09 (MH) - As has been the case for most games this season, we travelled away, this time to Peterborough with a depleted squad. The 11 Elmsmen were subjected to a lesson in passing from Peterborough SSPIO ultimately ending in a 5-1 defeat and a long journey back in the minibus. The only goal coming from Alex Jennings. Big thanks to SMS travel from Towcester for their services on the day.
03.10.09 (MH) - COBFC went crashing out of the League Cup in the first round after losing away to Abba Athletic 6-2. Two early second half goals from Jon Faulkner and Dan Clarke gave the Old Boys hope bringing the game back to 3-2, but having no players on the bench meant the starting 11 didn’t have enough in the tank to both score and prevent any more goals.
21.09.09 (JF) -
Another beautiful sun filled afternoon at the playing fields as the Elmsmen entertained Heyford united reserves. Both teams cancelled one another out with some quality attacking football. The visitors came close to breaking the dead lock with the post coming to the aid of the old boys, from an unchallenged header. Missed chances by both sides and another effort from Heyford striking the same post from long range, saw the half come to end at nil all. The second half kicked off with renewed faith for the home side, and within minutes took the lead through Colin Crowhurst. He squeezed between defender and goalkeeper for a smart finish from the edge of the box. The Heyford hearts never sank, they continued to battle and continued to create chances. With substitute Barry Judd beginning to put his stamp on the game, his pin point cross picked out Ali hall for a good headed goal, Croughton's second. Still Heyford continued to fight, they had a penalty appeal turned down before striker Mikey Hurst finished from close range after great work from Crowhurst. A touch of class sealed the 4-0 win when midfield general Stuart wait scored his 2nd goal of the season. With the first 3 points of the new season on the board, Croughton old boys can now settle and start to play the football they know they are capable of. Time will tell.
14.09.09 (MH) - Having only 6 players available, we were forced to cancel the fixture with FC Neranja.
07.09.09 (JF) - A beautiful sun soaked day, with the odd gusty wind welcomed the new league season for the Elmsmen at the recreation grounds against abba athletic. Early smart play by the visitors lead to the 1st goal with barely minutes
on the clock. Croughton then found their feet with some clever passing
before a Stuart Wait rifled home an equaliser passed an on-looking
goalkeeper. Possession then kept changing sides, with no team really
taking charge of the game. But after slicing open the back four, abba
scored shortly before half time. After the break, with more desire about
their play, Croughton increased the pressure, going close with a couple of
chances they would normally be expected to score. Credit to a battling
abba side, they then raised their game, sensing that it was too close for
comfort. Then with some time yet to play abba stretched a tired defence
and forced in a header from close range. Croughton were again deflated but
continued to battle and almost got a late consolation goal. So, it wasn't
to be a fairy tale start for the Old Boys but they showed character against
a good young abba side.
02.09.09 (MH) - After going in 2 goals down at half time to The Plough, we ended up winning the game 3-2 with 2 goals from Colin Crowhurst and 1 from Stuart Main.
26.08.09 (MH) - Another loss. FC Neranja gave the Old Boys a lesson in passing and ended up winning 6-1. The consolation coming from a goal mouth scramble.
22.08.09 (MH) - Not much to say about this one, after starting the game with 9 players and losing our stand in goal keeper after 15 minutes, the game ended in a 7-0 drubbing from Brackley Sports Reserves.
19.08.09 (MH) - Another pre-season defeat, this time at the hands of ABK Reserves, goals from Mike Hurst and a hatrick from Ali Hall saw the game finish 5-4.
17.08.09 (MH) - COBFC pick up there first pre season victory following 2 opening losses. Glory Farm provided a tough test but The Elmsmen came out on top with 2 goals from Mike Hurst a hatrick from Colin Crowhurst and the final goal coming from the head of Dan Somerton.
